SHOW LA

February 26 - March 1
The REEF, 4th Floor
Booth 22

Hannah Sloan Curatorial & Advisory is pleased to participate in the inaugural edition of SHOW LA, with works by Alia Malley, Jerry McMillan, Katie Shapiro, Marvin Silver, and Dana Sorman.

Our presentation highlights photo-based practices that embrace stepping into the unknown. Across varied approaches, each artist engages photography as a space of risk, experimentation, and boundary-pushing inquiry, expanding the medium toward new ways of seeing and existing. Together, these projects reflect the courage inherent in artistic exploration, foregrounding photography’s capacity to navigate ambiguity while opening fresh perceptual and conceptual horizons.

Anchoring the presentation is a rare suite of seven vintage photographs taken by Marvin Silver in 1962 that capture trailblazing Light and Space artist Robert Irwin in his studio at a pivotal moment in his practice. The images coincide with Irwin’s “early line paintings,” a body of work he later described as the point at which he “grew up” as an artist: “All my activities after those line paintings are a result of how those paintings taught me to look at the world.” Silver’s intimate, unguarded photographs trace this quiet yet radical shift—an artist deliberately narrowing his formal language to open an expansive inquiry into how we experience art, one that would shape the trajectory of his career and redefine postwar dialogue around perception and phenomenology.
