At the beginning of the year, the independent space satis.FACTORY organized an open call for Latinx visual artists residing in Los Angeles, with the support of Hannah Sloan Curatorial & Advisory. This collaboration invited artists to apply to its international artist-in-residence program.

In its first edition, this competition featured Erika Hurigami (founder and director of CuratorLove) and Elena Kettelsen (assistant curator, MoMA PS1) as international judges, and Chicano photographer William Camargo was the selected artist. Thus, this August, Camargo is living and working at satis.FACTORY.

Our residency offers lodging, meals, a work studio, and a stipend for artistic production, experimentation, and research at our headquarters in the Escalante neighborhood. The call sought to unite two independent, women-led projects, one in Costa Rica and one in the United States, who believe in cultural exchange as a space for personal and communal growth. We seek opportunities for artists to share their knowledge and practices with the local community of San José, and offer alternative art education opportunities to academia.
