La futura en colectiva es una promesa (A Collective Futura is a Promise), is a two-day exhibition in an open studio format that shares the public processes and artworks she created individually and collectively during her stay. This open studio ends her residency experience and welcomes the local community to meet the artist and learn about her artistic practice.
Yang notes, “This residency has given me a generous and productive space to host a group of exiled Nicaraguan feminist activists, whom I have summoned to collectively imagine and create the Central America we dream of for the future. A future with justice, that honors memory, community care, and the reunion with friends – compañeras– who live in exile and are scattered across the world, as a result of the escalating violence that the state has been imposing in Nicaragua since 2018. I have also enjoyed this opportunity to build communal ties and networks with Costa Rican artists and activists.“
A Collective Futura is a Promise weaves together video art, a galactic comet and portal to the future, work-in-progress documentation, a collective altar, and works that Yang created hand in hand with migrant and exiled feminists. These encounters in Costa Rica were organized in collaboration with the Feminist Collective Volcanicas. For three consecutive Saturdays, the artist opened a space of collective care, listening, and complicity to dream and imagine a Central American feminist future in 2035.
