About /

Tom Knechtel is a Los Angeles-based artist and educator. His work was the subject of a major 25-year traveling survey, On Wanting to Grow Horns (2002). His work is included in prominent public collections, including MoMA, MOCA, LACMA, SFMOMA, and The Hammer Museum, among others. He is represented by Marc Selwyn Fine Art, Los Angeles.

Described by Los Angeles Times art critic Christopher Knight as “one of the finest figure painters working today,” Dan McCleary uses classical geometric structure and single-source lighting to elevate everyday, quotidian moments into timeless compositions. Deeply invested in his local community, he also founded the non-profit arts school, Art Division, in 2010, providing resources and mentorship for under-resourced young adults in central Los Angeles. His work is held in major public collections, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, LACMA, The Hammer Museum, Harvard Art Museums, and the New York Public Library.
