Join us for a quick IG Live check-in with textile artist Katrin Aason as she celebrates the opening of her new solo exhibition in El Salvador! We're following Katrin's international trajectory after her acclaimed shows at the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design in Costa Rica and CKG in Los Angeles. For the collectors and curators who connected with her work in LA, this is a chance to track her evolution and see how a new environment impacts the perception of her work.
The conversation will focus on her debut solo show in El Salvador, titled “El Pigmento Revela, La Tierra Recuerda” (The Pigment reveals, the earth remembers), which runs at Galeria 1-2-3 in San Salvador from October 9th to November 1st. For this exhibition, Katrin shares a more intimate dimension of her process, revealing for the first time her hand-drawn sketches and notes made prior to weaving. These foundational drawings inform the resulting textiles, which feature complex designs incorporating multiple woven panels and varied patterns.
The work itself draws upon ancestral knowledge and techniques of coloration, reinterpreting them in a contemporary language. The palette centers on earthy ochres, El Salvador's distinctive blues, deep purples, and muted olive greens. Tune in to hear more about this intuitive and spiritual process, and how her work continues to transform as it gains attention on the international stage.
