Curanderxs will bring together in Costa Rica four of the most relevant voices in contemporary curating in Ibero-America and the Caribbean.

The Spanish Cultural Center and satis.FACTORY will open a meeting and training space during September that will bring together leading figures in contemporary curating from the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama and Mexico to share experiences, methodologies and new ways of thinking about curatorial practice.
Curating has ceased to be limited to organizing exhibitions and has become a practice capable of generating research, sparking conversations, building knowledge, and fostering new ways of relating to art, territories, and communities. Under this premise, Curanderxs. Encounters on Curatorial Practices was born, an initiative that will bring together four renowned figures in contemporary curating from Ibero-America and the Caribbean in Costa Rica.
Powered by satis.FACTORY, with the support of Hannah Sloan Curatorial & Advisory and the Spanish Cultural Center in Costa Rica (CCE), the program will offer throughout the month of September a combination of talks open to the public and intensive training spaces aimed at curators, cultural managers, artists and people interested in curatorial practices.
Rather than offering a single definition of curating, Curanderxs proposes exploring it from diverse experiences and contexts. Through four sessions, participants will learn about working methodologies, research processes, and reflections arising from some of the most relevant curatorial projects in the contemporary art scene in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The program will feature the participation of Dominican curator and researcher Luis Graham Castillo, whose practice is situated at the intersection of contemporary art, cultural research and Caribbean thought, addressing topics such as memory, archives, spirituality and situated forms of knowledge.
Also participating will be Puerto Rican curator and writer Marina Reyes Franco, a member of the organizing team of La Gran Bienal Tropical and former curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Puerto Rico, recognized for developing projects that investigate the relationships between art, history, culture and tourism in the Caribbean, as well as for making visible historically underrepresented narratives.
From Panama comes Juan Canela, current chief curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Panama and one of the most renowned figures in Ibero-American curating. His career includes projects developed in collaboration with institutions such as the Jumex Foundation, the Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (CA2M), Matadero Madrid, the Reina Sofía Museum, the Paiz Art Biennial of Guatemala, the Pontevedra Biennial, and ZsONAMACO, among other international platforms.
The program is rounded out by the participation of Mexican artist, curator, and researcher Sofía Olascoaga, whose practice links art with education, critical thinking, and collective action. Her key experiences include co-curating the 32nd São Paulo Biennial, her work at the University Museum of Contemporary Art (MUAC) and the Carrillo Gil Art Museum, and research projects focused on community building, collaborative processes, and critical pedagogies.
Each of the guests will offer a conversation open to the public in the LAB of the Spanish Cultural Center and will subsequently develop an intensive training space at satis.FACTORY, allowing participants to delve into diverse approaches to curatorial practice from experiences developed in museums, biennials, public programs, artistic residencies, publishing projects and independent initiatives.

Curanderxs reunirá en Costa Rica a cuatro de las voces más relevantes de la curaduría contemporánea en Iberoamérica y el Caribe.
El Centro Cultural de España y satis.FACTORY abrirán durante septiembre un espacio de encuentro y formación que reunirá a destacadas figuras de la curaduría contemporánea de República Dominicana, Puerto Rico, Panamá y México para compartir experiencias, metodologías y nuevas formas de pensar la práctica curatorial.
La curaduría ha dejado de ser una labor limitada a la organización de exposiciones para convertirse en una práctica capaz de generar investigación, activar conversaciones, construir conocimiento y propiciar nuevas formas de relacionarse con el arte, los territorios y las comunidades. Bajo esa premisa nace Curanderxs. Encuentros sobre prácticas curatoriales, una iniciativa que reunirá en Costa Rica a cuatro reconocidas figuras de la curaduría contemporánea de Iberoamérica y el Caribe.
Impulsado por satis.FACTORY, con el apoyo de Hannah Sloan Curatorial & Advisory y el Centro Cultural de España en Costa Rica (CCE), el programa ofrecerá durante todo el mes de septiembre una combinación de conversatorios abiertos al público y espacios intensivos de formación dirigidos a curadores, gestores culturales, artistas y personas interesadas en las prácticas curatoriales.
Más que ofrecer una definición única de la curaduría, Curanderxs propone explorarla desde distintas experiencias y contextos. A través de cuatro encuentros, las personas participantes podrán conocer metodologías de trabajo, procesos de investigación y reflexiones surgidas desde algunos de los proyectos curatoriales más relevantes del panorama artístico contemporáneo en América Latina y el Caribe.
El programa contará con la participación del curador e investigador dominicano Luis Graham Castillo, cuya práctica se sitúa en la intersección entre el arte contemporáneo, la investigación cultural y el pensamiento caribeño, abordando temas como la memoria, los archivos, la espiritualidad y las formas situadas de conocimiento.
También participará la curadora y escritora puertorriqueña Marina Reyes Franco, integrante del equipo organizador de La Gran Bienal Tropical y ex curadora del Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico, reconocida por desarrollar proyectos que investigan las relaciones entre arte, historia, cultura y turismo en el Caribe, así como por visibilizar narrativas históricamente poco representadas.
Desde Panamá llegará Juan Canela, actual curador jefe del Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Panamá y una de las figuras más reconocidas de la curaduría iberoamericana. Su trayectoria incluye proyectos desarrollados junto a instituciones como la Fundación Jumex, el Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (CA2M), Matadero Madrid, el Museo Reina Sofía, la Bienal de Arte Paiz de Guatemala, la Bienal de Pontevedra y ZsONAMACO, entre otras plataformas internacionales.
El programa se completa con la participación de la artista, curadora e investigadora mexicana Sofía Olascoaga, cuya práctica vincula el arte con la educación, el pensamiento crítico y la acción colectiva. Entre sus principales experiencias destacan la co-curaduría de la 32.ª Bienal de São Paulo, su trabajo en el Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC), el Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil y proyectos de investigación centrados en la construcción de comunidades, los procesos colaborativos y las pedagogías críticas.
Cada uno de los invitados ofrecerá un conversatorio abierto al público en el LAB del Centro Cultural de España y desarrollará posteriormente un espacio intensivo de formación en satis.FACTORY, permitiendo a las personas participantes profundizar en diversas aproximaciones a la práctica curatorial desde experiencias desarrolladas en museos, bienales, programas públicos, residencias artísticas, proyectos editoriales e iniciativas independientes.
